Libro Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is a real oddity. The book is in good shape with spotty covers and darkened spine. light wear. on the dedication page is written in old hand "To Jeanette Wheeler from the Bishop of Carlisle" at the top of the page then at the bottom of the page in the same hand is, " That naughty bishop sends you this as payment for a stolen kiss." There is a letter in the front presenting the book to another owner in 1947 and repeating the history. The note is from J.T.W. and I take that to be Jeanette Wheeler the original recipient. Signed by Author(s).

During the commission appointed to prepare a scheme for an Anglo-Scottish Union in the early years of the 18th century, many questions were raised as to the value and necessity of such a union. Bishop Nicholson, long respected as a scholar of Scots and Irish history and a strong advocate for Union, published these medieval documents to prove that the Kingdoms had always treated each other as equals and without any legal assumption of superiority by England, thus furthering the want of a stable political connection which had been the cause of strife on the border for many years.
