Libro Prima edizione
First edition, 1986. Hardback. 382pp. Red cloth binding with gilt to spine. Dust jacket. This is an impressively comprehensive study and review of birds in Scotland. The author, Valerie Thom has been editor of Scottish Birds and past president of the Scottish Ornithologists' Club. The species accounts review the period 1950 - 83 but also include some records of rarities and details of counts up to the spring of 1985. The texts of major species accounts are complemented by 173 distribution maps and many tables of relevant data. there are 129 drawings of species by a team of artists under the editorship of David Watson, who also contributes chapter headpieces and other drawings. A section of photographs illustrates the varied habitats typical of Scotland and there are further appendices and an extensive bibliography. The book will be of obvious interest to birdwatchers in Scotland but will also be of great interest to the many thousands of birdwatching visitors from elsewhere. Illustrated by John Busby (over 100 illustrations). Book in near fine condition. Dust jacket very good and unclipped. very minor edge wear only. Book.
