Prior owner name on front endpaper otherwise interior is unmarked, tight and clean. A good copy, but not a collectors copy.

Thomas Littleton (Baron Lilford) became President of the British Ornithologists Union in 1867 and remained in that capacity until 1896. These 271 pages of TEXT (plus appendices, plus INDEX =312 total) are notes from his tenure. They include chapters entitled : `Ponds, Paddocks and Aviaries', `Otter Hunting Falconry and Shooting' , and `Notes from Mediterranean Journals '. Meet Sankey and Grip and / or the tame lammergeiers. In ADDITION to the rooks, hoopoes, snipes, rock-thrushes, pheasants, fieldfares, and peewits you will ALSO encounter otters, rabbits, Barbary mice, lemurs and pied stoats. Victorian biology at its broad-based best. 12 b/w plates (Thorburn) plus frontis complement the text. Cond : Boards are cloth, gilt lettering on spine and face. Issued w/o dust jacket ? Greenland Falcon in (debossed) gilt comprises cover graphic. SPINE top and tail worn, also fore points. Binding tight for age. Top page edge is gilt. P/O name on front ep. VERY minor foxing and soiling. Page edges are sli. rough-cut.
