Noted Chilean artist Thomas Daskam McKimmey was a cartoonist, painter and photographer. He developed an artistic career in a self-taught way and carried out publication projects for Chilean media, highlighting among them his collaboration with the Revista del Domingo of the Santiago newspaper El Mercurio. He was an artist-in-residence at the City Colleges of New York. He is known for his drawings and paintings of the human figure, portraits, birds, nature and still lifes, and his impeccable drawing shows the influence of the North American School that stands out for its illustrative cut and meticulous details. His works on characters and moments from Chiloé, Magallanes and towns in southern Chile where he has lived are also much sought after. Daskam was also a professional photographer and ornithology fan; he traveled the country from North to South photographing Chilean birds.
