Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Andy Warhol, et al (illustratore). 1st Edition. "Best in Children's Books" was a series of 42 volumes published between 1957 and 1961. Each volume contained an excellent mixture of ten to twelve pieces, each illustrated by a different artist and taken from a variety of sources. The stories could be adapted classics, fairy tales, or new stories. There could be quite lengthy stories, or short verses. Each volume also contained some non-fiction, including a biographical piece on a famous person, and a short description of a country. Most notable about this series was the use of some excellent illustrators. This volume, number 27 in the series, is one of six with original illustrations by a young Andy Warhol. Here, he contributes 19 drawings to a piece called "Card Games Are Fun". The first quarter of the volume is taken up with a very abridged version of "Robinson Crusoe", illustrated by Edward Shenton. There's also a short Grimm's tale and a Norse folk tale. And there are non-fiction pieces on rocks and Turkey and Clara Barton. This lovely copy has a hint of browning to edges, but is otherwise near fine.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Andy Warhol, et al. (illustratore). 1st Edition. Volume 33 of this 42 volume series of excellent children's books published from 1957 to the late 1960s. Although published by Doubleday's book club, these are not your typical book club issues. These books are all original, and contain original stories as well as traditional tales and re-tellings of classics. There's also some non-fiction - a look at a foreign country and often a biography of a famous person. Most notable of all was the use of new illustrations by some artists who have since become highly collectable. This volume is a good example, containing a story with new illustrations by Andy Warhol. There's also illustrations by Richard Scarry, Vladimir Bobri, and Adrienne Adams. Lots of other good stuff, too. A near fine copy with minor browning to edges and endpapers. Dust jacket is very good, very slightly edgeworn and grubby with browning to inside surface. JS.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Andy Warhol, et al. (illustratore). 1st Edition. Volume 7 of this 42 volume series of excellent children's books published from 1957 to the late 1960s. This volume is a case in point, containing new illustrations by Andy Warhol. There are also Richard Scarry's illustrations to "Little Red Riding Hood", a Grimm tale, a "Raggedy Andy" story, a look at Japan, and Hiawatha pictured by Edward Shenton. Lots of other good stuff too. This copy is good only, largely due to being slightly misshapen. Boards are a little bowed and the spine has become a concave channel. There is some faint brown staining to the pastedowns which, if you press your nose to it, smell just a tad musty. Internally the textblock is clean and well bound, but the pages are a little wavy. Dust jacket is very good, slightly worn and nicked at extremities, with the concave channel down the spine and an internally repaired creased tear to bottom of front panel. JS.

There is also a story illustrated by Richard Scarry, a long Irish tale by Richard Bennett, a biography of Andrew Jackson, and a visit to Peru amongst many other excellent items. Edges are slightly browned, otherwise a very good copy indeed. One of the scarcer volumes from this terrific series.
