Hardback. Gertrude A. Kay (illustratore). First Edition. First edition hardback bound in original navy blue cloth with pastedown pictorial boards and gilt title to spine. Pictorial endpapers. Full colour illustrated frontispiece, additional five colour plates throughout, all on glossy paper. Line illustrations within the text. Rubbing and scuffing to binding, pastedown a little soiled but still nice and clear. Wear to spine edges and corners, gilt to spine dulled. Faded spot to lower front board, dent there to the pastedown. Pencil inscription to half title dated 1923; pencil and crayon markings by a child to half title and verso. Cracking to gutter. Plates ii and iii are detached but present. Edges of plates worn not affecting the illustration. Pages are a little toned and thumbed, occasional spotting throughout, although clean for the most part. Overall good condition. 93 pp. A wellloved and very sweet festive book, relatively scarce. book.

Navy blue cloth boards have bright gilt lettering on spine and color pastedowns on front and rear. Corners and spine ends are rubbed but not worn through. Hinges are intact and binding is tight. This belonged to a school district and their stamp appears on ep and reverse of frontispiece. No card or label. Pages are clean. One has a small closed tear at bottom edge and the fore edge of the ffep had a tear repaired with tape on the blank reverse. All six glossy, color plates are present. The scarce dust jacket has a $1.75 price on flap. There's chipping at head and foot of spine and corners, with rubbing along flap folds. Bottom front has a branched, closed tear. A story of the boyhood of Santa Claus, and how he turned out as he did.
