This issue is dedicated to the 1681 men of the 36th (Texas) Division who fell under German fire during the crossing of the Rapido at Monte Cassino, January 20-22, 1944. With 96 photographs by Russell Lee. Russell Werner Lee 1903 ? 1986) was an American photographer and photojournalist, best known for his work for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression. His images documented the ethnography of various American classes and cultures. A contemporary of Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange, Lee is now considered one of the most influential documentary photographers in American history.
