A large tome well illustrated and providing a comprehensive history up to publication. Red morocco boards rebacked with modern morocco spine. Gilt armorial to front board. Covers worn to edges and corners with boards exposed. Further general rubbing and scuffing. Gilt page edging to upper face of page block. Binding tight (as a result of rebacking). Bookplate of The Worshipful Company of Barbers of The City of London (The Library, Barber Surgeons¿ Hall) to front pastedown. Contents: periodic light scattered spotting, but generally bright. Closed tears to three fold-out colour plates, two repaired (pp 99/197/362). Two leaves with scuffed tears within the pages: pp369/70 and pp373/4. Minor marginal stain to the last few pages. Some light dust soiling to upper page edges. 623pp weighing in excess of 6Kg. 34cm by 28cm by 8cm approx. More details and images available on request. Including a two page list of author"s publications and four pages of publisher"s advertisements to the rear. Beautifully illustrated by Sidney Paget. In the original publisher"s decorative cloth binding, with gilt title to the spine. Some light marking to the boards and edgewear to the extremities. Light rubbing, particularly to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges are starting slightly but still firm. Age-toning to pastedowns and endpapers. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good. book.
