Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. For two decades, Swiss photographer Serge Fruehauf has documented fascinating architectural details cast in concrete. Yet his focus lies not only in the beauty of the built environment but also in the surprising and sometimes absurd puzzles created by later interventionsstairways that lead to dead ends, disfigured garden walls that have long outlived their purpose. Serge FruehaufExtra Norma brings together the best and most interesting of the more than one thousand images in the artists most recent series. Taken in Paris, Geneva, Grenoble, and Lyon, Fruehaufs photographs constitute a critical reflection on architectural modernity mitigated by the photographers love of the spaces he has photographed and his deep sympathy for the architects and planners that have been drawn to concrete as a useful, multifaceted building material in the latter part of the twentieth century. Despite their promising qualities, the buildings or clusters of buildings that are the product of modern construction methods with concrete appear today as bland monstrosities or grotesque hybrids of traditional and modern architecture. Fruehaufs photographs are joined by a preface by curator Martino Stierli, who offers an insightful discussion of how Fruehaufs work highlights these structures as allegories of todays cultural situation. The first publication of Serge Fruehauf's architectural documentary. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. 148 pp. Condition : as new - The Colombian-born photographer and artist Guadalupe Ruiz has undertaken a project to document the social and economic inequity in her native city of Bogotá. She explores six houses from the city's six different taxation classes whose residents range from extremely affluent to impoverished. By taking photographs of apartments and streetscapes, whole interiors and single pieces of furniture, Ruiz creates a cohesive and multilayered portrait of the city as a whole. She also examines personal and decorative objects, such as family portraits and Catholic icons found in both slums and luxurious villas, and highlights the differences and some surprising cultural parallels between socioeconomic classes. Guadalupe Ruiz- Bogotá D. C. is a subtle, thought-provoking examination of urban life and includes over a hundred stunning images arranged by neighborhood. Condition : very good copy. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 28 x 27,2 cm, Hardcover, 144 pages, 120 color illustrations - Born 1958, Patrick Weidmann lives and works in Geneva. His work today consists mainly of photography and writing. Back in the early 1980s he associated photographs with objects, but over the past 20 years his work has come to be centered on representing them. While his early "combined photographs," as they could be called, included objects of a fetishistic nature (such as chains, for instance), he later chose depicted objects to incarnate fetishism. He brings this dimension of the commodities that surround us to the fore in images depicting a Jacuzzi, an airplane seat, an electronic circuit, a soft toy, a cross-section of a car, or some random techno-style setup, framing the image so as to accentuate its fragmentary nature, itself characteristic of photography. In addition, as Joerg Bader puts it, "his handling of light worthy of a marketing handbook, with cascading reflections and a clear preference for reflective surfaces is a significant tool in persuading us that we live in the realm of commodities, in a world that is so mercenary that it now fills the entire life of everyone on the planet ".
