Small octavo. *The Rev Sabine Baring Gould was a Devon man, he wrote a scarce work on Vampires in the late 19th century a lovely book Cheap Jack Zita on Gypsy life (another great rarity), several children's books and other topographical works of devon interest, folklore and history, this remains a scarce title in ANY condition. Only 7 held in institutional libraries and not mentioned in Osborne. A FINE Victorian cloth binding. Stories inc; Gottlob's Picture, Wow-Wow, The Cat's Tree, The Schnabelweid Plot, The Queen Of Dentists, The New Master & the title story.

Words added by B.-G. top right of first page, "from | S. Baring-Gould | [Horbury Wakefiled -excised] | Dalton | Thirsk. And to the title: "by the Author of 'Iceland: its scenes & Sagas', 'Post Mediaeval Preachers,' &c". It is divided into three chapters, a B.-G. concludes with his sources, noting that "The above is taken from [several?] independent historians whose accounts tally most closely in all but a few trifling particualrs. Apparently unpublished.
