CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Historical account of events of the Civil War described by Edward Bouton, a Brevet Brigadier General with the Union Army during the Civil War. Bouton initially served as Captain of the 1st Illinois Light Artillery and later Colonel and Commander of the 59th U.S. Colored Infantry. He was brevetted as Brigadier General on February 28, 1865. At the war s outbreak, Bouton raised a battery, mostly at his own expense. They became known as Bouton s Battery; Battery I, First Regiment, Illinois Light Artillery. Generals Halleck and Sherman both praised him as the best artillery officer in the army. "He was the most daring brigadier we had in the West." Scarce publication by this Union officer; seldom offered for sale, the only reference in RareBook Hub is from 1999 and LiveAuctioneers not having any records of this book. Historical account of some of the events of the Civil War by Edward Bouton (1834-1941), an American Brevet Brigadier General who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. In the war, Bouton also served as Captain of the 1st Illinois Light Artillery and later as Colonel and Commander of the 59th U.S. Colored Infantry. He was brevetted as Brigadier General on February 28, 1865 for his military service and leadership during the Civil War.
