HMS Elactra, a pre-war RN destroyer, was in the thick of WWII action up to the time of her loss in the the Battle of the Java Sea, where a British, US, Australian and Dutch fleet suffered tremendous losses to the Japanese Navy. The Electra attacked through the smoke of the battle "and was seen no more." Leiutenant Commander Cain was the ship's senior surviving offivcer and fired her torpedoes toward the enemy as the shell battered Electra lay stopped. There were few survivors, but even fewer after they spent the rest of the war in Japaness captivity. Cain said of Electra: "A happy ship --- the finest I have ever known." 282 pages including index of ships, 18 b/w photos including author frontis. Light blue hard covers with silver spine titles VG with minute fading spine extremities, lower front corner lightly bumped, dealer stamp lower left FFEP, text block otherwise excellent, no inscriptions. Colour art DJ VG with small tape repaired tear spine top, few chips, not price clipped. Scarce with quality DJ.
