Massively heavy, oversized volume, published in this first facsimile edition in 1968 by W.W. Norton & Co., based on folios then available in the Folger Shakespeare Library Collection. With a new Introduction by Peter W.M. Blayney, but prepared by noted Shakespeare scholar Charlton Hinman. Bound handsomely in two-tone, red cloth over boards, red bonded leather-backed, with gilt ruling and lettering to spine, gilt fleur-de-lis and publisher device at spine, scored by four raised bands. Top-stained in gilt, quite fine. Repeating design at two-page decorated card stock endpapers front and rear. Housed in a simple but sturdy red cloth-covered slipcase, still fully intact, lightly rubbed edges. Silk linen ribbon bookmark still intact. Preface, Introduction, consisting of The First Folio and its contents, the printing and the proofing, the Facsimile, and Appendix A, then Mr. William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories & Tragedies, and Appendices. The Wikipedia entry devoted to Mr. William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies notes that the First Folio was published first in 1623 roughly seven years posthumous.
