Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 288 pages. John Bogle puts our obsession with financial succe ss in perspective Throughout his legendary career, John C. Bogle -founder of the Vanguard Mutual Fund Group and creator of the fir st index mutual fund-has helped investors build wealth the right way and led a tireless campaign to restore common sense to the in vestment world. Along the way, he's seen how destructive an obses sion with financial success can be. Now, with Enough., he puts th is dilemma in perspective. Inspired in large measure by the hund reds of lectures Bogle has delivered to professional groups and c ollege students in recent years, Enough. seeks, paraphrasing Kurt Vonnegut, to poison our minds with a little humanity. Page by pa ge, Bogle thoughtfully considers what enough actually means as it relates to money, business, and life. Reveals Bogle's unparalle led insights on money and what we should consider as the true tre asures in our lives Details the values we should emulate in our business and professional callings Contains thought-provoking li fe lessons regarding our individual roles in society Written in a straightforward and accessible style, this unique book examines what it truly means to have enough in world increasingly focused on status and score-keeping. Editorial Reviews Exclusive: Wil liam J. Bernstein on Enough William Bernstein, Ph.D., M.D. is th e critically acclaimed author, financial theorist and historian w hose books include A Splendid Exchange: How Trade Shaped the Worl d, The Birth of Plenty, The Four Pillars of Investing, and The In telligent Asset Allocator. Bernstein is frequently quoted in nati onal publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, M oney, and Forbes. If you are wondering about the cause of the c urrent market crisis, then you haven't been reading enough of Jac k Bogle. Because he certainly knows not only where, but why and how. For decades Jack has been communicating his disquiet in prev ious books, speeches, and public testimony. Years from now, when historians and investors dissect the economic and market meltdown s of 2008, they'll consult this slim, well-written volume. In or der to understand the intellectual and moral platform from which he surveys the economic wreckage, you need to know a little of hi s story. Bogle founded one of the world's great investment compan ies, the Vanguard Group. Most men in his situation would have lev ered such success into a multi-billion-dollar net worth; instead, he mutualized Vanguard, converting it, in effect, into a nonprof it organization whose only goal was to benefit its fund holders. From an ethical perspective, Vanguard is the only investment comp any worthy of that name. (As opposed to most financial firms, whi ch are in fact marketing companies whose main purpose is to milk unwitting investors of fees and commissions.) The answer to the conundrum of 2008 lies in the book's title, Enough, which is the punch line from a delightful Kurt Vonnegut/Joseph Heller story. S imply put, our nation has been suffering from decades of unchecke d financial excess, for which we are now paying the piper: excess in investment company fees; excess in financial speculation masq uerading as diversification and innovation; excess in the salarie s of top executives; excess in salesmanship; and most importantly , excess in the role played by the financial industry in our nati onal economy and national life. Each of these excesses gets its own chapter, and each one is a tightly written gem. Chapters 2 an d 3, which dissect out the frenzy of derivatives, structured vehi cles, and layers of intermediation behind the recent collapse, al one justify the book's purchase price. As Bogle states in the bo ok's beginning, in the spring of 2007 the financial services sect or--which, after all, produces nothing of substantive value--acco unted for one-third of the earnings of the S&P 500. By the time y ou read this, this outsized influence will have shr.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. President Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, three months after his father died in a traffic accident. When he was four years old, his mother wed Roger Clinton, of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In high school, he took the family name. As a delegate to Boys Nation while in high school, he met President John Kennedy in the White House Rose Garden. The encounter led him to enter a life of public service. Clinton was graduated from Georgetown University and in 1968 won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He received a law degree from Yale University in 1973, and entered politics in Arkansas. He was defeated in his campaign for Congress in Arkansas's Third District in 1974. The next year he married Hillary Rodham and in 1980 and Chelsea, their only child, was born. Clinton and his running mate, Tennessee's Senator Albert Gore Jr., then 44, represented a new generation in American political leadership. In 1998, as a result of issues surrounding personal indiscretions with a young woman White House intern, Clinton was the second U.S. president to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He was tried in the Senate and found not guilty of the charges brought against him. He apologized to the nation for his actions and continued to have unprecedented popular approval ratings for his job as president. a very clean copy, no rips, no tears, and no stains.
