The vignettes are mostly allegorical, others are religious (God responding to Moses: "Ego Sum Qui Sum," The Crucifixion), and historical (Vercingetorix, the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71). Some of the vignettes are signed in the plate by A. Mangonot, Paul Avril, G. Alaux, Mengin, Edme Couty, P. Kauffmann, Gustave Fraipont, H. Danger, Régereau, A. de Richemont, Petiau, Camille Lefèvre, E. Matthis, and others. A tiny scratch on spine, and three minor scratches at upper edge of front board.
