Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First Edition. Autograph; 464 pages; Clean and secure in original binding in very nice dustjacket. Inscribed and Signed by David McKean on haltitle "To Rolly / With gratitude for your / assistance, and admiration / for all you have accomplished. / It has been wonderful / to find, and to get to know, / a Philadelphia cousin. / Warm Regards, / David" For more than forty years, Clark Clifford was Washington's consummate Democratic power broker - attorney and adviser to the nation's most influential leaders. His 1991 memoir, Counsel to the President, looked back on a remarkable career of public service. But the very year his autobiography was published, the Clifford legend began to crumble. Caught up in the scandal that destroyed the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, the eighty-five-year-old Clifford was arrested on charges relating to his law firm's involvement with the outlaw bank. Though his case never went to trial, and his protege, Robert Altman, was found not guilty, Clifford's reputation was in ruins. How could such a man come to such an end? What happened? And why? In Friends in High Places, a noted investigative reporter and a chief investigator in the Senate inquiry on BCCI provide the answers. Drawing on original documents, more than a hundred interviews with Clifford's friends and adversaries, and fifty hours of interviews with Clifford himself, the authors reveal the drive and shrewdness that led Clifford to the pinnacle of power - and demonstrate convincingly that his involvement with BCCI was no aberration, but the bitter fruit of seeds planted at the beginning. PROVENANCE: Rowland Evans was a provocative newspaper columnist, commentator and author who antagonized liberal politicians and championed conservative causes. He left Yale and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 during World War II and was discharged in 1944 because of malaria. In 1963, Mr. Evans and Mr. Novak began writing ''Inside Report,'' an insider's view of politics that was published four times a week until Mr. Evans retired in 1993. Mr. Evans and Robert Novak began their work as columnists in the early 1960's, a time when newspaper columnists wielded outsize influence in national politics. The pair pioneered in transferring that influence to the medium of cable television with the political discussion program ''Evans & Novak'' -- carried on CNN from that cable network's beginning. Rowland Evans and his wife Kay (Katherine Winton Evans), also a respected writer and editor, were mainstays on the Washington social scene, hosting many memorable gatherings in their handsome Georgetown house -- to which flocked influential and remarkable people drawn from journalism, politics and general society over the decades from the 1960s to the 2000s. Both Evans and Novak became more predictably conservative over the years, particularly during the Reagan years. Reportedly, both columnists voted for JFK in 1960 and for Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Evans earned a place on Richard Nixon's infamous "Enemies List." Novak reported that Evans had JFK as a guest for the first dinner party the latter attended as President Elect. Kay and Rowland Evans has a particularly close friendship with Robert F. Kennedy, his wife Ethel and their family.; Signed by One Author.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Surveying over four centuries, this volume brings together a wide-ranging selection of artworks and artefacts that highlight under-recognised histories of trans and gender-nonconforming communities. Through the contributions of artists, writers, poets, activists, and scholars, this title reflects on historical erasure to imagine trans futures. An expansive array of artworks and artifacts charts not a patriarchal history but a gender-neutral, trans-centric hirstory. The first publication of its kind, this expansive survey celebrates trans forebears, highlights struggles and triumphs, and reflects on the legacies of trans creative expression. This book is published by the Museum of Trans Hirstory & Art, a conceptual art project of artist Chris E. Vargas that is forever "under construction" by design to allow continual transformation. Hardcover. Condizione: New. This survey brings together three decades of work by contemporary Native American artist Gerald Clarke. Utilizing wit and humor to expose historical and present-day prejudice and injustice, Clarke brings a decolonial perspective to urgent cultural and political issues facing our world. Clarke is an artist, university professor, cowboy, and Cahuilla tribal leader. Combining various media in his sculptures, paintings, works on paper, videos, performances, and installations, Clarke derives artistic inspiration from his cultural heritage, expressing traditional ideas in contemporary forms that are both poetic and urgent. Clarke works against stereotypes and archetypes of Native American art and culture, repurposing found objects and creating clever juxtapositions to make profound political statements. Clarke's artistic output resonates with histories of assemblage, pop, and conceptual art produced by both Native American and non-native artists. The first catalogue on this inventive contemporary artist, the collection introduces Clarke's work at a moment when it is profoundly necessary. Masterfully designed with color illustrations and illuminating texts, Gerald Clarke: Falling Rock is a politically-engaged and often humorous look at the artist's storied career. Very nice clean, tight copy free of any marks.
