Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good -. B/W Photographs (illustratore). First (presumed). This one is SUB-TITLED ` ._._.Mennonites in Russia under the Romanovs'. It is written in old German and I speak English - so I'm guessing. What SEEMS apparent is that the authors conducted interviews with Mennonite Brethren who served in Russia as `conscientious objectors' during WWI. Actual dates mentioned cover 1904 -1916. Hence the photos show work crews (in and around Moscow, but also in Turkey) performing duties like cooks, butchers, stretcher-bearers, foresters, road-crew and the like. The home addresses of those interviewed is given: lots from Clearbrook, British Columbia and St.Catherines, Ontario but also some each from provinces in between. This 312 page volume, because of the `old script', looks ANCIENT and very home-made. Cond: Green paper wrapper with a symbolic cover illus. (b/w) incl. an axe and a (red) cross. Cover is soiled and lightly tattered at edges and corners - ADDING to the ancient look. Corner of title page missing. Ink price on p. 03, some v. minor ink underlining in text. Tight in binding. Fascinating for a student of the language or of alternate military service. Lots of `soldier' photo portraits included. Size: 8vo.
