Kelowna, British Columbia. Privately published by Alf Davy. 1985. Octavo (8 x 6). 184 pp. Limited Edition. Book number 120 of 200 copies published. Signed by the twelve contributors to the book: Alf Davy, Doug Porter, Jim Crawford, Denise Maxwell, Tim Tullis, Brian Chan, Ralph Shaw, Ehor Boyanowsky, Mike Maxwell, Barry Thornton, Tom Murray, and Peter Caverhill. Color plates showing the most effective fly patterns for the Province together with their precise dressings. Text illustrations. This was Lee Straight's copy with his bookplate. Lee Straight was the long-time Outdoor writer at the Vancouver Sun. There are four letters exchanged between Lee Straight and Alf Davy, color photographs of fish caught by Lee and Alf, and notes by Lee Straight regarding the book, laid-in. Alf Davy wrote to Lee Straight in January 1985, asking him to contribute a chapter in the book. Mr. Straight wrote back and declined the offer. In Lee Straight's letters and notes it's clear he was not a fan of the book, or of Mr. Davy as editor; with one of his inked notations citing the book's title: "It's Ghillie, not Gilly". Despite Lee Straight's disapproval, the book was phenomenally successful: by April 1994, the book had sold 48,000 copies. This limited edition is bound in black leatherette spine with gilt titles and green cloth with gilt decorations. Illustrated end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. Green cloth slip case. The book, dust jacket, slip case and letters and notes, all in fine condition. Signed by Author.
