Cuerpo del libro en muy buen estado de conservación. Sobre el editor de este libro, la Real Compañía de impresores: 1763 es un año crucial desde el punto de vista bibliófilo en España. A partir de ese año desaparecen progresivamente, por ejemplo, algunos privilegios exclusivos de impresión, desaparece la tasa del Consejo real que se debía pagar por la impresión de cualquier libro, se intenta elevar el nivel de la calidad de las ediciones españolas que empalidecían ante el ejemplo de las ediciones extranjeras, muy circulantes entonces fomentando la creación de nuevas prensas y, por último y más importante, dando licencia para que se creara la Compañía de Impresores y Libreros del Reyno, los editores de nuestro ejemplar de la Historia de la conquista de Mexico. Hasta entonces, muchas compañías y 'hermandades' de libreros, en Madrid, trabajaban por separado. Contemporary full calf, lettered in gilt, an embossed design and gilt rules along the edges of both boards, gilt inner dentelles, all edges marbled, the leaves 9 x 13 inches, with wide margins. The format is folio, the text collates complete, engraved frontis, five folding engraved plates and two folding maps inserted. Edges rubbed, both boards neatly detached, about a three inch piece of spine leather missing near the bottom. The frontis is foxed, the title browned from contact with the frontis; the rest of the paper clean and bright. If repaired this would be in Very Good condition.

The armorial bookplate is that of St. Andrew St. John, 14th Baron of Bletsoe (17591817) was a 19th-century English politician who became a peer after his brother's death, served as Captain of the Gentlemen Pensioners, and was admitted to the Privy Council. Author Antonio de Solís y Ribadeneyra (1610 1686) was a Spanish dramatist and historian. His work includes drama, poetry, and prose, and he has been considered one of the last great writers of Spanish Baroque literature.The "Historia de la conquista de México.", covering the three years between the appointment of Cortés to command the invading force and the fall of the city, deservedly ranks as a Spanish prose classic. It was first published in 1684 in Spain.
