The format is folio, the text collates complete, engraved frontis, five folding engraved plates and two folding maps inserted. Edges rubbed, both boards neatly detached, about a three inch piece of spine leather missing near the bottom. The frontis is foxed, the title browned from contact with the frontis; the rest of the paper clean and bright. If repaired this would be in Very Good condition.

Author Antonio de Solís y Ribadeneyra (1610 1686) was a Spanish dramatist and historian. His work includes drama, poetry, and prose, and he has been considered one of the last great writers of Spanish Baroque literature.The "Historia de la conquista de México.", covering the three years between the appointment of Cortés to command the invading force and the fall of the city, deservedly ranks as a Spanish prose classic. It was first published in 1684 in Spain.
