Prima edizione
Condizione: Fine in very good jacket. First American edition of this collection of verses from Milne's wildly popular WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG, the first Pooh book, set to music. In the months after the astonishing success of his first attempt at light children's verse, Milne "had been approached by all sorts of composers wanting to set them to music" (Thwaite). In the end, Milne chose Fraser-Simson for the task - mainly because little Christopher Robin "was extremely fond of the Fraser-Simson's liver-and-white spaniel, Henry Woggins; they often met on their daily walks" (Thwaite). Milne was thrilled with the result, published here, telling Curtis Brown that "the music is exactly right." Beautifully illustrated in black and white by Shepard. 12.5'' x 9.25''. Original quarter red cloth, blue patterned paper boards with printed title label. In original green typographic dust jacket. Illustrated by Shepard with vignettes in black and white. [2], 34 pages. Some spotting to boards. Jacket with top edge soiled, a few others spots of small stain, and shallow edgewear with a couple little chips.

Milne Christmas, 1927./ I'm singing./ Stand back all of you, and please hold tight,/ I'm going through these if I take all night./ And please don't say if I should sing flat,/ 'Was that a bicycle, or next door's cat?/ 'No, I think it's Peter singing./ 'Yes, it must be Peter singing./ 'That's what he's doing./ 'Singing."In 1925, Harold Fraser-Simson set 14 poems from Milne's When We Were Very Young to a piano score. The project proved so successful, Fraser-Simson continued composing songs based on Milne's lyrics, ultimately writing 67 of them. First published in London in 1928, this volume of songs, with Ernest Shepard's charming illustrations, makes Milne's incomparable verses among them "Sneezles," "Furry Bear," "The Emperor's Rhyme" and "Cradle Song" still more irresistible. Also issued in a signed limited edition of 100 copies. Cutler & Stiles, 116. Book about-fine with lightest foxing to half title only. Minor edge-wear to corners and spine of dust jacket, extremely good. A wonderful inscribed copy. Signed.
