Aggiungi al carrelloBound volume containing six complete individual penny weeklies from Lloyd's Weekly Volume of Amusing and Instructible Literature. Each weekly is brimming with sensational tales of love and adventure, extravagantly portrayed and often spiced with the supernatural. Many contributions from early female writers including Intimate Friends by Mrs Emma C Embury, The Gambler's Wife by Mrs Sarah J Hale and The Maniac's Lament by Fanny Donagan. The individual weeklies are bound out of sequence. A contents page titled Ninth Volume is followed in this order by Nos 39 -42 (pp.1 -316), No.44 (pp. 1-64) and No.38 (pp. 257 - 316). All collated and complete. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A characterful and well used volume showing age, presumably missing its general title page. Quarter bound vernacular binding incorporating brown calf over paper boards; scuffed, bumped to corners and spine. Age toned throughout. Hand stitched binding visible over front and rear gutters. Front pastedown scribbled lightly in pencil by a previous owner. First leaf reveals the contents page listing 61 story titles; slight loss along upper spine edge although text not impacted. Loosened stitching evident along gutters throughout. Weekly No.41 loose to bottom half of spine. Text block otherwise sound.
