Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. For everyone in South Africa the post 1994 period was one of hope. Women's struggles and organising efforts within and outside the anti-apartheid liberation movement meant that women now occupy positions of power. But capitalist patriarchy is still intact. The reality for many women is that gross inequalities continue to divide and haunt us. This book documents the work and thinking of Feminist Alternatives, a group of feminist activists working for meaningful alternatives to leadership and power and for real social transformation where women, and all people, can be free to realise their full potential and humanity. From differing vantage points within struggle, it offers a critique of women's position in South Africa today and gives new meaning to women's knowledge, analysis, vision and actions for change. They suggest that rights and freedoms for women are the litmus test of meaningful change, and assert that any notion of sustainable transformation must insist on radical ruptures with capitalist patriarchy. Any conceptualisation of democracy that ignores the economic and social disenfranchisement of the social majority must be rejected. The reality for many women in South Africa, despite post-1994 optimism and gains for some, is that gross inequalities continue to divide us. This book documents Feminist Alternatives' work for meaningful alternatives to leadership and power and for social transformation where women are free to realise their potential.
