Obra testimonial de primera mano sobre la guerra de Tejas, escrita al calor de los sucesos que significaron la pérdida de más de la mitad del territorio mexicano, por los Estados Unidos. TÍTULO ORIGINAL: MEMORIAS PARA LA HISTORIA DE LA GUERRA DE TEJAS. Primera parte: Desde el descubrimiento y posesión de Tejas, por los españoles, hasta el inicio de la crisis social y militar, que desencadenó el estado de guerra entre la población de las colonias. Segunda parte. Primer periodo de la Guerra, que comienza con el año de 1835, en que la declaró México, pero que ya la habían hecho forzosa las colonias sublevadas. Esta edición todavía conservó el apéndice original, que reproduce la Noticia Estadística sobre Tejas, preparara por Juan Nepomuceno Almonte, y publicada en 1836, y el Itinerario de Natchitoches a México por Tejas, con tablas, además de los documentos originales y láminas de la primera edición sin censuras de 1848. Serie Colección Económica, números 614, 615, 616 y 617. 1221 páginas en total. 4 volúmenes encuadernados en 2 tomos, en bella piel, conservando las cubiertas originales a color de época. This edition is the Cumplido edition which was published in 2 vols in 1849.Both vols are bound in brown and tan boards with hints of red and leather spines with gilt lettering. The vols show wear on the covers along with bumbed corners. Each have had replacement endpapers at some point in time however all pages of the text are original and in very nice condition for books that are over 175 years old. (Rafael published an edition in Mexico in 1848 & 1849) The Cumplidao edition provides the best coverage of the Battle of the Alamo and the 1836 campaign. Basic Texas Books 62 states "The best account by a Mexican contemporary of the American conquest of Texas. Eugene Barker called it 'the only comprehensive history of the colonization of Texas and the Texas Revolution from the Mexican point of view'.The Rafael and Cumplido editions each stand on their own as separate works but complement each other so much that both are necessary to have a complete account." The Cumplido edition gives a much fuller account of the Texas campaign in 1836 and reports in detail on the military operations from the taking of the Alamo in 1836 till late summer 1837. Filisola was originally from Italy and participated in many battles in the Napoleonic wars. He came to Mexico in 1811 eventually rising to second in command behind Santa Anna.
