It is argued that the invasion had the inverse effect, leading to the substitution of Russian influence for that of England throughout Central Asia. Evidence is presented that the British forces in Afghanistan were exterminated by a general rising of the inhabitants, a circumstance which attracted the attention of Parliament to the origin of the invasion. It is further argued that, in order to mislead Parliament and to protect Russia, British authorities forged and suppressed documents relating to the mission of Sir Alexander Burnes to Kabul in 1837 and 1838. The book concludes that the invasion of Afghanistan was a crime undertaken by collusion with a foreign power, and that the falsification of documents constitutes a high crime against the state.
