Red cloth with reasonably bright gilt lettering, wreath, and linear design elements on spine, diminished gilt lettering, medallion and linear design elements on front cover, but all distinctly readable; illustrated endpapers (very faint images of young women reading or being read to); stained top edge (red); rough cut fore-edge; spine slightly sun-darkened; two small spot stains (red to pink) near lower right edge front cover and similar spotting in a 1 1/2" by 4 1/2" area at lower left of rear cover (NO warping or wrinkling of cloth board, NO odor): the book is more than 100 years old. Binding is still tight, lower corners with very minor curls; text block is lightly, uniformly (delightlfully) age-toned. Artifact is a lovely art object, despite miscellaneous, minor imperfections.
