Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. The centerpiece of the exhibition Figure in the Garden was Katharina Fritsch s Figurengruppe (Group of Figures, 2006 08). On view in the Museum of Modern Art's Sculpture Garden from 2011 to 2013, Figure in the Garden also included works by Auguste Rodin, Pablo Picasso, and Alberto Giacometti, among others. But Fritsch s polychromic ensemble, the show s only work from the twenty-first century, made a bold statement about the present and future of figurative sculpture. The catalogue includes generous illustrations, including many photographs taken by Fritsch herself. Robert Fleck's essay examines the works and traces the history of the museum s Sculpture Garden, which, on its opening in 1939, was the world s first outdoor space for exhibiting modern sculpture. And a conversation between Fleck, Fritsch, artist Tom Otterness, and MoMA curator Ann Temkin, who curated the exhibition, explores issues around sculptural display while revealing how the exhibition came together. Hardback 104 pages 42 color images, 34 black and white images 10 x 7 7/8 inches; 25 x 20 cm.

Firm binding, clean inside copy. *** "This is the first major survey in English of the work of Katharina Fritsch, one of the most important artists to emerge in Europe in the last 20 years. Ranging from the colossal to the miniature, Fritsch's sculptures and installations bring to life figures and objects that already exist in our imaginations. Using modern manufacturing techniques, Fritsch fabricates people and things that seem to have their origins in mythology, literature, and religion; they hover between purity and danger, innocent yet also unnerving. Combining a singular inner vision with an absolute material precision, Fritsch's sculptures border on the surreal." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: Arena of the image; public works, imaginary places, by Julian Heynen; Men and morality, by Iwona Blazwick; Same hare, by Edward Allington; Multiples, by Iwona Blazwick; Irreconcilable in space; How some of Katharina Fritsch's work gets under your skin, by Bice Curiger; Thinking in pictures, by Katharina Fritsch with Susanne Bieber.
