Hard Back. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Pratt, George - Design (illustratore). First Printing Stated. 107 Pages plus eight page portfolio. Very Slight Razor Cut on DJ front cover, very difficult to see. Beautiful, clean book. This is the June 2000 First Printing Edition. Beautiful pen and ink sketches by renowned artist Jeffrey Jones, with a sprinkling of his painted work interspersed throughout. Interior is black and white, with rich color dust-jacket. Compiled with the help of George Pratt and David Spurlock, with an introduction by Michael Friendlander. Includes a conversation with Jeffrey Jones and George Pratt. Jones comic book art excursions included: Creepy, Eerie, Wonder Woman, and Flash Gordon. The popular '70s revolution in comics and fantasy art was led by Jones and his Studio mates. He then created two of his best remembered works: IDYL for National Lampoon followed by I'M Age for Heavy Metal. The often talked about, sometimes controversial Jeffrey Jones, is an evolving artist who has bridged the gaps between comics, science fiction, heroic fantasy and fine art as no other man or woman ever has. The Jeffrey Jones Sketchbook could be the largest collection of previously unseen works by the artist since ever.

From the publisher: "Originally published to great acclaim in 1976, The American Monument has become one of the most sought-after photography publications of the twentieth century. Long out of print, with only a rare few available on the secondary market, this second edition makes a treasure available once more to new audiences. Published in the same over-sized format as the first editionwith exquisite reproductions of 213 photographsthe album of post-bound single sheets can easily be temporarily disassembled for display. Considered by many, including Friedlander himself, to be one of his most important books, The American Monument has influenced generations of photographers. The second edition includes a new essay by eminent photography curator and Friedlander scholar, Peter Galassi, which illuminates the history and continued significance of this publication. This album by Lee Friedlander is a memorial in photographs to the American monument. The photographs were selected from several thousand negatives and more than a thousand prints the photographer made of the subject during a dozen years while traveling throughout the United States. The curator John Szarkowski stated: 'I am still astonished and heartened by the deep affection of those pictures, by the photographer's tolerant equanimity in the face of the facts, by the generosity of spirit, the freedom from pomposity and rhetoric. One might call this work an act of high artistic patriotism, an achievement that might help us reclaim that word from ideologues and expediters.".

A grace of intention shines through the oft times awkward alliance of efforts that produced them. They are redeemed by the confidence they express in the worth of the act memorialized. In this album the viewer and the viewed hold each other in balance. A world buried alive in our midst is unearthed to us. The photographer has brought it to us to see.".

(New York: MoMA, 2005), "Books, Special Editions, and Portfolios" (pp. 444-459), #17.] Lee Friedlander's work is widely known for transforming our visual understanding of contemporary American culture. Known for passionately embracing all subject matter, Friedlander photographed nearly every facet of American life from the 1950s to the present. From factories in Pennsylvania, to the jazz scene in New Orleans, to the deserts of the Southwest, Friedlander's complex formal visual strategies continue to influence the way we understand, analyze, and experience modern American experience. Friedlander's work continues to influence photographic practice internationally, in part due to the heightened sense of self-awareness that is a trademark of so many of his photographs and in part because of his ability to embrace wide-ranging subject matter, always interpreting it in an elegance that hadn't existed prior to his work. As New (from Friedlander's personal archive). A Mint copy in the publisher's original shipping box. A Mint unopened signed copy (shrink-wrapped after signing). Considered by many (including the artist), to be Friedlander's best book! From the publisher: "In 1979, Friedlander was commissioned by the Akron Art Museum to document the industrial area of the Ohio River Valley. Over the course of the following year, he traveled in Ohio and Pennsylvania, photographing the towns, cities, factories, and workers. The result is not only a stunning reportage of the industrial heartland of America, but also an insightful portrait of the contemporary American social landscape, seen with Friedlander's unique blend of formal brilliance, elliptical wit, and acute perception. As Leslie Katz states in the afterword, 'Not since the Great Depression has a series of images shown the factory world with the clarity that this book does'." Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. Please inquire. Pricing and availability are subject to change (price is net to all; promotional discounts do not apply). First edition, first and only printing. Signed by Friedlander. Hardcover. Blue-green cloth-covered boards, with title stamped in black on cover and spine; no dust jacket as issued. 77 pp., with 213 black-and-white reproductions printed by The Meriden Gravure Company. 12 x 17 inches. This first edition was limited to 2000 copies. A special binding was designed so that individual sheets (on fine, heavy-stock paper) could be removed and exhibited. [Cited in Andrew Roth, ed., The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century. (New York: PPP Editions in association with Roth Horowitz LLC, 2001), in Andrew Roth, ed., The Open Book. (Göteborg, Sweden: Hasselblad Center in association with Steidl Verlag, Göttingen, Germany, 2004), and in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook: A History, Volume II. (London and New York: Phaidon, 2006).] Lee Friedlander's work is widely known for transforming our visual understanding of contemporary American culture. From the publisher: "In an environment dominated by menacing speed, instability, advertising and television, the American monument plays a meditative role. A grace of intention shines through the oft times awkward alliance of efforts that produced them. They are redeemed by the confidence they express in the worth of the act memorialized. In this album the viewer and the viewed hold each other in balance. A world buried alive in our midst is unearthed to us. The photographer has brought it to us to see." Signed by Author.

It offers a rich exploration of Jewish poetry, from the ancient Hebrew Bible to the hymns of the medieval period. The author thoughtfully places Jewish poetry within the wider context of world literature, comparing it to the works of Greek poets and examining its unique relationship with religious themes and national identity. Through heartfelt hymns, poignant laments, and powerful calls for justice, the book reveals the resilience and enduring spirit of the Jewish people.
