Obwohl die amüsanten Unterhaltungen nach 1825 spielen und aus den hinterlassenen Papieren rekonstruiert sein sollen, tritt Jean Paul posthum auch selbst auf und beteiligt sich an den Diskussionen. - Wenig begeistert zeigte sich die "Allgemeine deutsche Real-Encyclopädie" bei Brockhaus 1854: "Eine ziemlich werthlose Nachahmung ist der unter Jean Paul's Namen erschienene Roman ?Der Pietist? von Göhring". - Dieses Exemplar stammt aus der Bibliothek des Germanisten August Sauer (1855-1926), der an der Universität in Prag unterrichtete und die Zeitschrift Euphorion herausgab. Quellenmäßig der Jugend und dem Volke erzählt" (Leipzig, Teubner, 1869) und "Die Kriege Preussens gegen Oesterreich von 1740 bis 1866, und zwar der Erste und Zweite Schlesische, der Siebenjährige und der Siebentägige Krieg : In ihrem natürlichen Zusammenhange volksthümlich geschildert" (Leipzig, Minde, 1868-74). - Der Adressat des Schreibens, der Landwirt und Agronom Wilhelm (Philipp) Ritter von Hamm (1820-1880), redigierte seit 1847 die "Agronomische Zeitung", leitete von 1851-64 eine von ihm gegründete Fabrik für landwirtschaftliche Maschinen bei Leipzig, kam 1867 nach Wien, trat 1868 in das soeben gegründete Ackerbauministerium ein und redigierte die Landwirtschaftszeitung der "Neuen Freien Presse" (vgl. DBE).
