Moderate to heavy shelf/edge wear, tips rounded, board edges through, moisture stain at bottom edge, moderate even soiling to boards, rubbing, rebacked (with new endpages), textblock shows very light moisture stain at bottom edge that extends up about 3 inches (does enter plates by about 1/4-1/2 inch), some very minor, sporadic foxing throughout, else tight, bright and unmarred. Quarterbound, black cloth spine, beige paper boards, black and red ink lettering and decorative elements. Oblong fo. pp. Illus. (b/w plates). Good+ [Textblock Very Good]. No DJ as Issued.

Half-title and title page printed in orange and black, title page with publisher's device in orange. Frontispiece portrait etching by S. A. Schoff. Inscribed by the composer and screenwriter Harry Ruby to his friend, the Jewish American lyricist Bert Kalman. Twelve photogravures from designs by F. O. C. Darley, with tissue guards. Spine somewhat sunned and binding lightly rubbed with very light wear along edges. Ex-Libris of Bert Kalman on inside front cover.

Large Paper Edition, limited one of 200 copies. [4], 312 pages; illustrated with frontis portrait of Hawthorne etched by S.A. Schoff and 12 tissue protected illustrations in photogravure by F.O.C. Darley. A beautiful edition of this classic work of American literature, illustrated by perhaps the most renowned illustrator of the 19th century. Showing some light expected page toning to prelims, else clean and tight. Exterior shows some rubbing at upper edge, else preserved nicely under the scarce red jacket which shows some wear. A most remarkable copy in the original jacket Size: Thick Octavo.
