The Blacker House is one of the most celebrated examples of the genius architectural design of brothers Henry and Charles Greene, built in 1907 for Robert Roe and Nellie Canfield Blacker in Pasadena, California. Everything for the house was custom designed, down to the teak escutcheon plates of the upstairs mahogany panel doors to the linen closets with their ebony cloud adorned keys. The house was famously sold to an antique dealer in 1985 who disassembled parts of the house and sold them on the art market, much to the chagrin of fans of the landmark building and of its designers. This book represents the first full documentation of the house following its extensive five-year restoration. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.

Libro
Hardcover. olive boards w/ gilt printing. 132 pgs w/ color & bw illustrations. glossy pictorial dustjacket w/ white printing. Wonderfully illustrated, a nice, bright copy. ".Recounts the meticulous five-year restoration program that has brought the residence back to it's original glory. Written by Randell L. Makinson, director emeritus of the Gamble house and the leading Greene & Greene scholar, and photographer and Frank Lloyd Wright specialist Thomas A. Heinz, the book includes a black-and-white photo essay by (the actor) Brad Pitt. The actor's gimmicky pictures, shot with an infrared filter that gives trees and vegetation a ghostly spookiness, are proof of the architects' ability to inspire unlikely enthusiasts in many walks of life. (Martin Filler The New York Times Book Review 2000-01-01)" VG (shelf-wear to boards; small rubbed patch to lower board. corners rubbed; upper corners bumped & creased. spine ends rubbed. dustjacket has light wear & scratches; bumping, rubbing to corners).
