There is a folded coloured map of South Africa "The Seat of War in Natal, SA" and "The Seat of War in Cape Colony and Orange Free State, SA" copyrigh 1899 by Rand mvNally & Co. The map is laid into the book and it seems to no have belonged to the book originally but taken from another source. (3.1 JM 0522 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".

This vol. only imperial octavo hardcover (VG-); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples. Hardcover. Condizione: Poor. A History of Africa and his People, Including the War of 1899 and 1900. Brown and burgundy hardcover with gilt tiles on front board and spine, it had a long closed tear along the spine, the tail is chipped. The cover is soiled and rubbed on all extremities. The pages are age-toned, soiled and showing signs of foxing. Deckle side edge. The binding is cracked and pulling away from the spine.

They were quite successful judging by the numbers of published copies of their book survived. This copy has 8 "Cerificates of Subscription" laid in for orders. A Special Notice tipped in states "Our Work.will be complete in one volume, providing the sad war in progress is finished by the time the first edition is published". The Boer War dragged on until 1902 and the book was published in two volumes.
