Stiff Wrappers. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. 52 pages; Oblong quarto in original black wrappers with central "porthole" in front cover revealing the command tower of a battleship. First page has some chipping along page edges and is dust soiled, lower corners curled, rear wrapper has a couple creases. Photographs, roll call, etc. commemorating Class 1-45 of the Naval Training School in Hollywood, Florida, which graduated in September 1944. Also included is the 4 page mimeographed program for the Graduation Exercises of Class 1-45, a certificate for graduating Ens. George L. Chesnutt for completing the course for Deck Volunteer (Special) signed by Commander Richard J. Penny, and an 8x10 glossy photo of Platoon 16, Company F signed by all members except Chesnut (photo is reproduced in the book). During World War II, Mr. Chesnut served as an officer in Naval Intelligence. Joining the NSA after his discharge, he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, serving on Okinawa and Taiwan and in Washington. He returned to the NSA after the war and worked for the agency until his retirement in 1979. A translator of more than 50 languages, ancient and modern, he used his linguistic skills at the National Security Agency (NSA) for more than 30 years as a civilian director of its analytic section. ; Signed by Associated; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings.
