Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good Plus. 1st Edition. First Edition (Number Line to 1). I had to do a little sleuthing myself not to discover that the 'H' in the author's name stood for Harry, but to find out whether or not the book was inscribed to the journalist who hosted Sunday Morning for all those years. The inscription reads 'To Charlie Osgood-- as a musician-- you'll dig this one. Best, H Paul Jeffers.' The first piece of positive evidence was an article (see the end of this listing) referring to Osgood as Charlie and telling stories about his piano playing and love of music. But what closed the case was a reference to Mr. Jeffers being the 'author of a sound recording titled "Confrontation at Harvard 1969 STRIKE" which was narrated by Charles Osgood.' Buddah Records released it. As for the condition of the book, it's an open and shut case. Okay I'll stop. You can see the orange covers in the photos. They are perfectly clean. The black lettering on the spine is very bright and unworn. The page edges are perfectly clean. There is a bump/ crease at both the top corner of the front and rear covers. The one at the front did not cause any creases on any the pages. The one at the back created only a tiny tip of the corner crease on the two blank rear end papers. I don't see any other wear on the covers, just a little crinkling on the top edges next to the corners. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. There are no binding issues. This book is in very nice shape. I'm scrolling through the pages without finding any instances of any soiling. I'm not seeing any other instances of creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is in solid condition, but does have some wear. Specifically, there is a 1/4 inch tear off both the bottom and top edges of the front, there is also a small chip off the top edge of the front and another off the top edge of the rear. There are small losses off the top edge at the junctures between the front cover and front flap and rear cover and rear flap. The flaps are in otherwise very good condition. They don't have any soiling. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It is fitted with a protective cover. From the article referenced above: 'Anthony Mason with a tribute to just one of the "Sunday Morning" anchor's many talents: For the past 22 years, "Sunday Morning" didn't need a house band. We had Charlie. He was his own accompanist. Even in his office, you would catch Charlie at the keyboard. Mason asked, "Piano was your first instrument?" Quote Well, a toy piano was my first instrument!" Osgood replied. " I started playing by ear, before I started taking lessons." 'H. Paul Jeffers is a writer with numerous nonfiction, mystery, and Western titles to his credit. His interest in government-sponsored law enforcement activities (the CIA and FBI, Scotland Yard) has also enriched his mystery and suspense novels with their assortment of amateur sleuths. Jeffers has also written a three-part Western series. According to a contributor to Twentieth-Century Western Writers: "What Jeffers is good at is giving the reader an assortment of rich characters who breathe life into his books. From the whole spectrum of human beings who appear in the stories Jeffers can, and does, create believable characters." From the dust jacket: 'This novel is as exciting as the world in which it is set-- and as hot as the jazz on The Street.' That sounds about Osgood as it gets. Inscribed by Author(s).
