Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj illus) Jerry Pinkney (illustratore). First Edition. [nice clean book with no discernible wear; the jacket shows just the teensiest bit of wear at several corners]. Young adult fiction about "the grief -- and glory -- of a first love," concerning "a young man's love letter to a woman who is dead: a writer he met when he was eighteen and she was forty. Reconstructing their affair like pieces of a puzzle, Steven Harper portrays the year in his life when he changed from an adolescent into an adult.".

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. First printing with full number line. Die-cut board book with white plastic comb binding, 12-1/2" x 8", full color illustrations on all pages. Minor rubbing to rear cover, one of the nicest copies we've seen. When I see this book, Pinkey's fourth book, I have to wonder if they told him to only draw white children? Pinkey is one of the great Black American authors & illustrators of the 20th century, winning the Caldecott Award, five Coretta Scott Kings, and the Virginia Hamilton Award. This early, brightly colored book has elements of his later work but is still mostly in step with contemporary illustration.
