Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition; Original Handwrit. One-of-a-kind. Hardcover notebook. Bound in two-toned publisher's cloth in black and burgundy. Spine is plain. This lined journal contains the handwritten notes of two secretaries who recorded minutes of meetings of the YMCA of Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1915 to 1917. While Secretaries Julian W. White and G. M. Riley Jr. do not record the word "Spartanburg" within the text, references are made to meetings taking place within the Wofford Fitting School, (which had been established in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1909), in the chapel. Their signatures are both present on the front end paper. There also mentions of Greenville occasionally throughout the text. Beginning on September 22, 1915, patterns throughout indicate meetings took place on a weekly basis, with some periods of time unrecorded or skipped (particularly at holidays). Notes are predominantly written on the recto (right) side of the page only with some exceptions. One such exception is a roster notation of the YMCA Cabinet recording two sets of cabinet members around the end of January, 1917 on pages 50 and 51. Presidents noted are O.H. Hatchett and G. H. Melton. Recto pages are filled through page 75. Pages 76-98 are blank. A fascinating look at YMCA meetings at the turn of the 20th century.CONDITION: Cover shows moderate wear with scratches, predominantly on the back. Leaves have toned, especially within the endpapers, yet handwriting is dark and legible. Hinges are weakening yet boards are still well attached. Binding is sound and pagination is complete. A wonderful record of antiquarian meeting minutes. Full refund if not satisfied. Signed by the compilers.
