The growing acceptance of MPSs in academia is clearly apparent. However, in industrial companies, their usage remains low. The programming of MPSs is still the big obstacle, and solving this software problem is sometimes referred to as one of the most challenging tasks of the 1990's. The 1994 working conference on 'Programming Environments for Massively Parallel Systems' was the latest event of the working group WG 10.3 of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) in this field. It succeeded the 1992 conference in Edinburgh on 'Programming Environments for Parallel Computing'. The research and development work discussed at the conference addresses the entire spectrum of software problems including virtual machines which are less cumbersome to program; more convenient programming models; advanced programming languages, and especially more sophisticated programming tools; but also algorithms and applications.

Terach adoptiert es und entschließt sich, Ur zu verlassen und zieht nach Haraan. Sara(i) wächst mit Abra(ha)m auf. Sie verlieben sich und müssen Haraan verlassen, da Geschwister nicht verheiratet sein dürfen. In Kanaan finden sie eine neue Heimat, doch wegen einer Hungersnot ziehen sie nach Ägypten, wo Abram als seine Schwester ausgibt. Als Lot in Gefangenschaft gerät, kommt ihm Abram zur Hilfe. Abram durchquert das Land, hat aber keinen Erben. Schließlich hat er ein Kind mit Sarais Magd Hagar. Die hat Sarai mit unfruchtbarmachenden Pilzen abhängig gemacht. In der Stadt Gerar wird Sarai in den Harem des Stadtkönigs geholt. Dort wird die Nebenwirkung der Pilze offenbar. Sarai wird nun schwanger mit Isaak, wie es drei Unbekannte vorhergesagt haben. Einer der Unbekannten offenbart Abraham, dass Sodom und Gomorra dem Untergang geweiht sind. Abraham versucht Sodom zu retten, doch vergeblich. Lot muss fliehen, als die Bürger Sodoms sich gegen ihn richten. Lots Frau stirbt auf der Flucht, seine Töchter legen sich heimlich zum betrunkenen Vater, um schwanger zu werden. Als Hagars Sohn Isaak verletzt, muss sie das Lager verlassen. Abraham glaubt seinen Sohn Isaak Gott als Brandopfer bringen zu sollen, wird aber davon abgehalten. Als Sara an einem Schlaganfall stirbt, erwirbt Abraham ein Stück Land und begräbt sie. Er schickt seinen Verwalter los, eine Braut für Isaak in Haraan zu finden. Fügung führt diesen zu Rebekka, einer Großnichte Abrahams. Sie wird Isaaks Frau.
