Diese Welt, die er zu entratseln versucht, ist ein labyrinthartiger Alptraum aus wechselseitigen Deutungen, Ritualen, Kafka und Kabbala, sowie Erzahlungen und Mutmassungen, die ihn immer fester umschlingen. Klaus Hoffer erhielt 1979 und 1980 den Rauriser Literaturpreis und den Alfred Doblin Preis fur diesen Roman, dessen erster Teil als literarisches Ereignis gefeiert wurde; der zweite Teil folgte drei Jahre spater. Friederike Mayrocker bezeichnete das Werk als eines der Interessantesten, das man lesen kann. "Bei den Bieresch" bleibt ein Geheimtipp, da es fernab aller Erwartungen und Konventionen ein unvergleichliches Leseerlebnis bietet.
