Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Jacket by Nichols (illustratore). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear, chipping and small loss to top and bottom of largely grey / green jacket and spine, corner slightly rubbed and bruised, some slight browning to extremities and spine, not price clipped (12/6), some faint inscriptions in pencil to ffep, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age. 281pp, map endpapers. Dominic Bevan Wyndham Lewis (1891-1969), was a journalist, author and biographer, known for his humorous newspaper articles. This is his biography of Dr. Johnson's biographer James Boswell, which challenges the tradition fostered by Macaulay and others, that Boswell was a worthless, drunken sot and wastrel, morally and physically debauched. Lewis doesn't ignore Boswell's love for wine and women, but concentrates on his kind heart, friendliness and the fact that he did produce a literary masterpiece.
