Condizione: Good. Kirkus Review of Book 1934A true story of present day Germany"" we are told, and surely it reads as though written by an eye witness to the reign of terror instituted last Spring, under the Nazi regime. The story is set in an original mold -- a vessel, having sailed from a German port on December 26th, 1932, returns the end of March, 1933, without any knowledge of what has taken place. A group of men, loyal German citizens, filled only with enthusiasm over their home-coming, plunges into the thick of an atmosphere charged with suspicion, fear, hate. One by one, the men come against authority -- in the form of terrorism. Sensational, frightful, bitter, this indictment of mediaeval methods in a modern world rings true, and carries more force than many volumes of unadulterated facts. Location:3 ex library with bookplate and pocket, Exile writer Sternfeld s.309-310 cover soiled, tears to crown and base of spine, hinges repaired. So effective is his portrayal of the horrors of present day Germany that the German Government has made every effort to have the book suppressed instituting libel suits against Liepmann and his publishers in every country where the book has appeared. To date Liepmann has won every such suit and expects to win the one now pending in this country. On the pretext of having in it libelled the head of a friendly state, the German Government had him imprisoned in Holland while he was on a visit there.

Condizione: Good-. "Every incident in the book has been carefully investigated and established as fact. It is dedicated to those who are suffering for their ideals." (from preface) . Kirkus Review 1936: They include the Communist and Socialist elements which Hitler is trying to stamp out. The narrator is a journalist representing an English paper, who gets his news through associating with the political underworld and the Nazi police of Hamburg (and who tells his story to Liepmann). He tells of the organizations, of the spying and counter-spying, of secret printing presses, of the dissemination of fly sheets against the Nazis, of the passwords and secret meetings, of the treatment of captured members. The period covered is very brief -- from the burning of the Reichstag in Berlin on through the period following the election of Hitler. Remarkably objective approach to difficult subject. The characters are taken from real life. Well done and interesting reading. Location:64 300 pp.covers worn crown and base of spine bruised , edges of covers bumped 64.
