Tall, narrow octavo, green cloth (hardcover), slick pages, [42] pp. Fine (As New). The "Guide to Prehistory" explores the archaeological evidence preserved at Historic Spanish Point. This thirty acre site is located on Little Sarasota Bay in Osprey, Florida. Its Native American treasures include a burial mound and two large shell middens, one of which features the "A Window to the Past" exhibition. In the 1800s, Historic Spanish Point was part of a pioneer homestead. Today, the pioneer home of Frank and Lizzie Guptill, the Webb citrus packing house, and Mary's Chapel adjacent to the Pioneer Cemetery capture this era. The Sunken Gardenaand Pergola, Duchene Lawn and Jungle Walk with its miniature aqueduct are preserved from the early 20th century estate of Mrs. Potter Palmer. In addition, nature trails and a footbridge across Webb's Cove showcase many species of native Florida plants. Historic Spanish Point is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
