Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. REPORTS OF GENERAL MACARTHUR JAPANESE OPERATIONS IN THE SW PACIFIC 1966 2 BOOKS. There are a lot of books about World War II but this is the first set I have encountered that was compiled using the Japanese records of their activities, in this case in the Southwest Pacific. I am very pleased to offer a two- book set, titled: Reports of General MacArthur Japanese Operations in the Southwest Pacific Area, Volume II, Parts I & II. These two large hard cover books (9 ½ x 12 inches, to page 365 & to page 803) were published by the U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C., dated January 1966. They are bound in brick red cloth with gilt decorations on the cover and gilt titles on the spine. The endpapers are decorated with a map of Japanese Navy: Order of Battle and Losses. In addition, the books are very well illustrated, with many (172 in total) combat & campaign maps, vintage photographs and reproductions of startingly brutal and detailed paintings of scenes from the war by Japanese combat artists. These books are quite uncommon and were probably not published in many copies; they were compiled, as noted on the title pages, from Japanese Demobilization Bureaux Records. This is the war told from the Japanese perspective, edited to be sure, but a real eye-opener! Condition: These two books are in very good condition. The hard covers of both volumes are a bit worn, with bumping to the corners and spine tips and muted but still legible gilt titles on the spine. A former owner has left his address label on the endpapers of both volumes and there is a spot on Part I where another label appears to have been removed. Those are the only marks I found in the books. Part I also has suffered some mis-folding of the pages, including one page with a small chip off the outer edge, not affecting the text, from about page 59 to 103. Inside, the pages are clean and bright. All the hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight and sound. These books are not ex-library or remainders.
