Hardcover. Condizione: New. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Portuguese text with translation to English (last 20 pages); Hardcover; 24.7 x 29 cm; 0.860 Kg; 120 pages with colour illustrations.; STILL WRAPPED IN PLASTIC.; "This year we commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the birth of our Founder, Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva, who created this foundation in 1953 with the aim of managing the private art collections he donated to the Portuguese nation, and to develop his legacy to Portuguese Decorative Arts and the crafts related to them. To pay tribute to our Founder, the Board of Directors decided to show to the public some of the most important items of Chinese porcelain commissioned by Europeans that once belonged to his private collection." excerpt from the foreword by Maria João Espírito Santo Bustorf Silva, 2000.; "Ricardo do Espírito Santo was one of the most distinguished Portuguese art collectors from the first half of the XX century. In celebration of the centennial of his birth, the Foundation which bears his name, has assembled in an evocative exhibition, porcelain pieces from the vast collection of his heirs, from private collections and finally from the Caramulo Museum, Abel de Lacerda Foundation. In some instances, we are unable to acquire the original pieces, having chosen identical objects, thus creating an exhibition mirroring his taste and style." excerpt from the introduction by Mary Salgado Lobo Antunes, 2000.

Hardcover. Condizione: New. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. Portuguese text; Hardcover (with dust jacket); 24 x 29 cm; 1.230 Kg; 179 pages with colour illustrations.; New book with signs of shelf wear. Our logo is glued to the front free endpaper.; Porcelanas e Vidros (porcelain and glass) is one of a series of books, each one about a certain nuclei or art collection from the Museu-Escola de Artes Decorativas Portuguesas in Lisbon. It is divided into three distinct sections, each with an article and the respective catalogue entries. The first section is dedicated to the production of Chinese porcelain and the European presence in China, and shows a fine selection of Chinese porcelain pieces dating from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) to the 19th century. The second section focuses on porcelain produced by the Vista Alegre Factory in Portugal, the first porcelain factory in the Iberian Peninsula, showing a number of excellent examples of this production. The third section highlights aspects of the Meissen porcelain production. Terminating with a comprehensive bibliography, the book also includes a study on Portuguese heraldry and a glossary of Chinese symbols, both of which assist the reader in acquiring a more wide-ranging knowledge on the subject. With significant contributions by Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos, Jorge Brito e Abreu, João Alarcão de Carvalho Branco, as well as the renowned restorer and conserver and also author of the book, Mary Espírito Santo Salgado Lobo Antunes, this book illustrates more than 70 magnificent pieces, providing the reader with a general context of porcelain production in three different regions.

Perhaps, it may not even be possible to think about Portuguese history without including the ocean and the Orient. The Porcelain Route exhibition, which the Fundacao Oriente is proud to display and is only possible due to the pieces kindly lent by institutions and collectors, bears witness to the Portuguese presence in the Orient and expresses praise of the oceans that made possible Portugal's dialogue with the world." excerpt from the presentation by Carlos Augusto Pulido Valente Monjardino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fundacao Oriente, 1998.
