Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. First Edition. 247 Pages. No defects noted. Interior text pages are flawless. There is a small masonry building on South Main Street in Boerne, Texas that bore a sign, which read Robert E. Lee stayed here. At the request of a local newspaper the author wrote an article about Lee's visit. While researching for this nothing could be found in the dozens of Lee biographies referring to Lee ever having been in Boerne. However there was evidence Lee traveled up and down the military road which passed through the town. Letters were found of contemporary accounts, and information in the Boerne Historical Society's files of Lee having stayed in Boerne with friends, the O'Gradys. The author continued to collect and research this interesting aspect of Lee's life over the years, and now has written this historically based story of Lee's last few days in Texas. He chose these last two weeks because they became so important to Lee, but were largely ignored by his biographers and other writers. Events were happening in Lee's life that he did not understand, were mysterious, and over which he had no control. This story is about a gentle man, his trials, tribulations, and the mental agony he suffered during these last few days on Texas soil in February 1861 seeing his country torn asunder. This is a historical novel with made-up dialoug and real names of the actors with the basic facts as accurate as possible. It is illustrated with photos of the period. Contents in 17 Untitled Chapters plus Historical Notes at the end.
