Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Interactive Distributed Multimedia Systems (IDMS) and Protocols for Mul- media Systems (PROMS) have been two successful series of international events bringing together researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia and industry in all areas of multimedia systems. In 2002, for the rst time, these two workshops were held jointly, in what we hope was the rst of a new series of challenging and topical international workshops. IDMS/PROMS 2002 contributed to scienti c, strategic, and practical - vances in the area of distributed multimedia applications, protocols, and - telligent management tools, with emphasis on their provision over broadband networks. Along with tutorials, regular papers and technical demonstrations, IDMS/PROMS 2002 resulted in high-quality original work. The areas of interest of IDMS/PROMS cover mobile multimedia systems, multimediamiddleware,multimediacommunicationprotocols,quality-of-service issues, resource management, next-generation Internet, active and program- ble networking for multimedia applications, multimedia-speci c mobile agents, multimedia distribution and transport, multimedia tra c engineering, multi- dia encoding and compression, ubiquitous computing, multimedia applications, development tools for distributed multimedia applications, performance of p- tocolsandapplications,multimediacontentmanagement,serviceaccess,acco- ting and tari policing for multimedia teleservices, and standards (e.g., MPEG) and related issues. The IDMS/PROMS 2002 call for papers attracted 112 submissions from Asian, Australian, European, North American, and South American countries. These were subject to thorough review work by the Program Committee m- bers and additional reviewers who carried out their work using a specially built conferencesystem,WebChairing, developedinCoimbrabyFlordeUtopia, which allowed full control of the submission and reviewing processes.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - WWIC 2007 was organized by the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and it was the fifth event of a series of International Conferences on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications, addressing research topics such as the design and evaluation of protocols, the dynamics of the integration, the performance trade-offs, the need for new performance metrics, and cross-layer interactions. Previous events were held in Berne (Switzerland) in 2006, Xanthi (Greece) in 2005, Frankfurt (Germany) in 2004, and Las Vegas (USA) in 2002. As in 2005 and 2006, WWIC was selected as the official conference by COST Action 290 (Wi-QoST-Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks). WWIC 2007 brought together active and proficient members of the networking community, from both academia and industry, thus contributing to scientific, strategic, and practical advances in the broad and fast-evolving field of wired/wireless Internet communications. The WWIC 2007 call for papers attracted 257 submissions from 36 different countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. These were subject to thorough review work by the Program Committee members and additional reviewers. The selection process was finalized in a Technical Program Committee meeting held in Malaga, Spain, on February 15, 2007.

Neuware -Broadband Satellite Communication Systems and the Challenges of Mobility is an essential reference for both academic and professional researchers in the field of telecommunications, computer networking and wireless networks.Recently the request of multimedia services has been rapidly increasing and satellite networks appear to be attractive for a fast service deployment and for extending the typical service area of terrestrial systems. In comparison with traditional wide area networks, a characteristic of satellite communication systems is their ability in broadcasting and multicasting multimedia information flows anywhere over the satellite coverage. The papers presented in this volume highlight key areas such as Satellite Network Architectures, Services and Applications; Mobile Satellite Systems and Services; and Hybrid Satellite and Terrestrial Networks.Mobility will inevitably be one of the main characteristics of future networks, terminals and applications and, thus, extending and integrating fixed network protocols and services to mobile systems represents one of the main issues of present networking. The secondary focus of this volume is on challenges of mobility, that is, on technologies, protocols and services for the support of seamless and nomadic user access to new classes of applications in person-to-person, device-to-device and device-to-person environments. The book comprises recent results of research and development in the following areas; Seamless mobility; Mobile ad hoc and sensor networks; Analysis, simulation and measurements of mobile and wireless systems; Integration and inter-working of wired and wireless networks; QoS in mobile and wireless networks; Future trends and issues concerning mobility. This state -of-the-art volume contains a collection of papers from two of the workshops of the 18th IFIP World Computer Congress, held August 22-27, 2004, in Toulouse, France: the Workshop on Broadband Satellite Communication Systems, and the Workshop on the Challenges of Mobility.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 270 pp. Englisch.
