Unmarked, with no discernible flaws. Dust jacket is price-clipped, protected in removable mylar, with heavy wear to top edge and foot of spine, and 3" closed tear at foredge of front panel. Ms. Moodie examines society along the front of the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario around 1850. She sees the society healthier than one that she had known in England due to the mixing of classes and the absence of convention and prejudice. 298 pages includes index, 8 B&W plates.
