Hardcover. Condizione: Acceptable. Arts et Metiers Graphiques [Published Date: 1957]. Text in French, Hardcover, 258 pp. Photography by Janine and text by Georges Charensol. In acceptable+ condition. Blue and red striped glossy pictorial paper over boards have nicking and chipping to the paper at the corner tips and top and bottom of spine as well as some tearing to the paper over the top and bottom of the hinges of the book. Light to moderate overall scuffing to covers as well with peeling to the thin glossy coating covering the paper over the covers, mostly on the spine. Spine has some thin cracks but binding is still solid. Pages are very lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. A photo album of 1950?s Paris, divided into seven parts, each with a separate map that corresponds to a walk that the authors suggest the reader take. This is Niepce?s first book, and her stunning black and white photography perfectly captures the daily life in Paris focusing on both the old and the new and what is changing in society at the time. With Commentary provided by French journalist, art, literary and film critic, Georges Charensol, this book provides a beautiful snap-shot of 1950?s Paris. Janine Niepce (1921 - 2007) is a distant relative of Nic?phore Niepce. In 1944, she obtained a degree in art history and archeology at the Sorbonne. At the same time, she developed films for the Resistance and participated in the liberation of Paris as a liaison agent. She is one of the first French people to work as a reporter-photographer journalist. His first reports, from 1947, were images of daily life taken "on the spot", in different regions of France. As a humanist photographer, she was interested in innocuous scenes, often featuring women and children. In the 1970s, her work focused particularly on the women's liberation movement. She was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 1981 and Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1985.
