Trade Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Yamashita, Mina - Design (illustratore). First Edition Stated. 96 Pages. No defects noted and interior text and illustration pages are flawless. For anyone who has a passion for New Mexico letters, the Southwest or the life and work of one of America's leading archaeologists, Jesse Nusbaum, who was lauded by Life Magazine with a cover story when he brought Mesa Verde out of the mire of time and made it a piece of living history. It is not so much the names accompanying this historical narrative, but it is the mind of the man who, among his many accomplishments, singlehandedly fought to preserve the integrity of a large section of southwestern America which would otherwise have been lost. Rosemary L. Nusbaum was born and grew up in Marquette, Michigan. In 1932, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and during World War II worked as a Medical Pathologist at Bruns General Hospital, Santa Fe. She has a long and rich involvement in the arts: she has studied sculpture with Eugenie Shonnard and ceramics with Warren Gilbertson. Her short stories and verse have appeared in numerous magazines. Her first full-length book, The City Different and The Palace, the story of the Palace of the Governors and its role in Santa Fe history, was published in 1978 by The Sunstone Press, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Contents in Four Parts: The Early Years, The Deeper Song, The Ancient City, and The Old Time.

This book delves into the fascinating world of the Basketmaker people, an ancient culture that predates the more well-known Cliff Dwellers and Pueblo people of the American Southwest. The author takes us on a journey through the meticulous excavation of Cave du Pont, a remarkable archaeological site nestled in the remote canyons of Utah. The cave, untouched for centuries, unveils a treasure trove of artifacts and insights into the lives of the Basketmakers. Through detailed descriptions of cists, burials, and everyday objects, we gain a vivid understanding of their ingenuity and resourcefulness. From intricately woven baskets and sandals to tools crafted from bone and stone, the author paints a picture of a people deeply connected to their environment and possessing a rich cultural heritage. This book challenges our understanding of early civilizations in the Southwest, shedding light on a period often overshadowed by later cultures. The Basketmakers' unique way of life, their sophisticated craftsmanship, and their harmonious relationship with the natural world offer valuable lessons for contemporary society. Their story reminds us of the enduring legacy of human adaptation, creativity, and resilience in the face of challenging environments. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

The book was published shortly after Hegemann's death in 1962.
