Oblong 8vo. 9 x 6 in. [12 pp (unpaginated)]. Colour-illustrated throughout, numerous colour plates reproducing the dealer posters for car models, colour tinted photo illustrations, text diagrams. Colour-illustrated softcovers, stylized cover art of Packard hubs, and Art Deco lettering in red, blue & silver on white background (minor toning & shelfwear to fore-edges, slight creasing to spine, very minor rubbing to corners), still VG bright copy, w/ former dealership stamp on front cover. First edition of this scarce original promotional brochure for the Packard 120 which was the mid-priced and more economical of the 8-cylinder autos, when Packard was still the premier luxury automobile, as well as the introduction of the Packard Six. The 120 models with two different trim packages included the Touring Sedan, Sedan, Club Sedan, Touring, Business & Sport Convertible Coupes. The Six was offered in the same styles, but smaller wheel base, less trim packages, and more economical. Unfortunately, Packard chose this period of time to expand into the midsize passenger car market, and this would later tag them during and after World War II as something less exclusive than the building of the finest luxury cars in America. Elephant folio. 22 x 34.5 in. 20 leaves, cutaway lithograph engravings throughout, thumb tabs at lower fore-edge (slight uniform toning, slightly increased oxidizing of paper revealed by tabs). Original printed softcover printed on thin brown packing paper, now carefully blocked & mounted w/ old repairs on archival board, bound w/ rear border, muslin strip sandwiched at gutter margin to secure the textblock (portion of the front cover renewed, upper fore-edge reinforced, rear cover supplied, and very faint stain to lower right fore-edge of first couple leaves), still a VG- copy. First edition of this exceedingly scarce catalogue featuring striking lithograph cutaway details for the famed 1946 Packard Clipper Line-up, and intended for the very lucrative service departments in Packard dealerships. The different revealed sections which are nearly full size are divided into Engine, Brake, Clutch, Transmission Overdrive, Steering & Suspension, Differential Rear Axle, and Electrical providing essential details to the Six, Eight, and Super Eight engines. The 1946 model year was a return to the Clipper series introduced in 1941 and they were produced from October, 1945 when American auto manufacturers were freed from Wartime restrictions until September, 1947. Featuring semi-streamlined 2- and 4-door sedans with fade-away fenders, and major changes to the grille with fewer and thicker bars, and could be ordered with a 245 cubic in. straight-six, or a 356 cubic in. 165 horsepower L-head 8, this 21st Series was a tremendous success. These oversize technical charts were designed to be hung in the service bays, with remnants of hole punches at upper fore-edges, and also for sheets to be removed as needed by tearing from the original stapled textblocks, so very few survive. Although originally issued from 1940 through at least 1955, no examples of any year are found in Worldcat, or automotive reference collections.
