Condizione: FINE. First thus. A reproduction of the 1856 edition of this classic fugitive slave story, with a new extensive introductory essay on Jews in the antislavery movement (this essay and the list of sources comprise 103 pp). Peter Still was kidnapped from his home in New Jersey as a child, was a slave for more than 40 years in Kentucky and Alabama and was finally liberated due to the generosity of two Jewish merchants who purchased him and them permitted him to buy his freedom with the work he did. After he obtained his own freedom, Still did not rest until he was able to purchase his wife and children also. Included in this book is the story of Seth Concklin, a white abolitionist who aided Still's family and was captured by slave hunters and either killed or committed suicide. Fine in fine dust jacket.
