First published in 1968, later printings have the same pagination. - Includes numerous small maps and several sections of black and white photographs showing everyday soldiering: marching, a few images of wounded soldiers, an exhausted soldier in a trench, but rather benign. The Munin-Verlag published many special division histories of Waffen-SS units. - This one consisted of volunteer soldiers from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland: all fighting for what the jacket text refers to as the idea of a united Europe.

The Division was unique in that its members included volunteers from eight European nations. Initially formed as a motorized infantry division in 1940, Wikings were upgraded to Panzergrenadiers in November 1942 and Panzers in 1943. The Wikings spent the entire war on the Eastern Front. They fought at Rostov, Kharkov, the Cherkassy pocket, Warsaw and Hungary. At the time of the surrender in Europe the unit was holding its defensive positions in Austria. Written by a veteran of the Wikings. Over 100 photos included in this second edition. Fine copy of the hard cover book still in shrinkwrap. No dust jacket as the book has a laminated pictorial cover. 480 pages.
